Thermal comfort in transitory spaces

As the staircases are highly transitory spaces the perception of the thermal environment is strongly connected to the outdoor thermal conditions. Considering the high activity level and the varying clothing level, the aim was to achieve thermal sensation indoors that is preferable than outdoors and still is within the accepted comfort levels. Thus during winter, the environment in the staircases will be slightly warmer than outdoors and in summer it will be cooler than outdoors. In highly glazed tall spaces it is important to account for the low glass temperatures during winter and the direct solar component during summer.
