raising awareness

The aim of this category is to discuss general building related issues, architectural trends and their impact on building performance, the impact of climate and location on building and envelope design and potential benefits obtained by a multidisciplinary approach.

methods and tools

The aim of this category is to introduce building physics related methods and tools that can be used during the envelope design process. The goal is to present a variety of software and give a brief description of their potential to quantify envelope and building performance. Since there is not a single existing tool that can be used to answer all the questions, in-depth understanding of their possibilities and limitations can allow engineers to appropriately use them and maximize their contribution to design.

building physics

The main aim of this category is to introduce general building physics principles related to enhanced building and envelope design performance. Issues such as perception of thermal comfort, solar and thermal envelope performance, air tightness and condensation risk are discussed and explained in simple terms.

envelope design

The aim of this category is to discuss the main parameters that affect the envelope solar and thermal performance. Focus is given to glazing and shading mechanisms and their impact on occupant comfort and energy use. Other topics such as thermal mass, natural ventilation, facade components (e.g. Double skin Facades, Airflow Windows, BIPVs, etc.) are also described.

facade products

This category contains cards that present existing and new innovative facade materials. The purpose is to briefly describe their main properties and integration possibilities. Products such as body tinted, reflective, selective and self cleaning panes, ETFE translucent membranes, Phase Changing Materials, light emitting and green walls, interactive and smart windows, adaptive fritting ets. are presented.
