The Wellcome Genome Campus is the first purpose-built life sciences facility in Hinxton, South Cambridgeshire. Comprising two buildings with over 20,000m² of floor area, it supports the campus's role as a global centre of excellence in genomics, biodata, health data, and data science.

Inform Design was appointed to conduct Stage 3 solar, thermal comfort, and daylight assessments. This includes confirming where the façades of the existing design perform adequately and where they don't, identifying potential performance issues, and proposing façade scheme options to improve performance and meet the set targets.

Our role is to:

  • Evaluate the performance of the current design options with regard to Peak Solar Gains, thermal comfort and daylight. In principle, we want to ensure we provide balanced solutions, as solar gains, thermal comfort, and daylight are often conflicting targets.

  • Investigate

    • Glazing types

    • Fixed shading elements' dimensions and rotations

    • Internal movable shading (if necessary)
