Faryners House proposal is a refined yet simple architectural composition, comprising of two interconnected elements: a central cube and an organic wing. This design approach is sensitive to its context, gradually transitioning to a neighbourhood scale along the narrow Botolph Lane and
St. George’s Lane, and towards Monument Square, thereby recognising its relationship with The Monument.
Situated within a dense urban context, the building’s façades experience variable solar exposure, leading to contrasting performance considerations - ranging from excessive solar gain on exposed façade areas to low daylight levels on shaded areas. Inform Design was appointed for solar performance assessments of the typical façades.

In more detail:
-
Touch base with the solar performance of the intended façade design
-
Examine the implications on the design for different Peak Solar Gains targets.
-
Identify configurations that satisfy the criteria for two types of façade schemes: (a) those comprising only glass options without movable shading units, and (b) those incorporating movable shading units (fabrics).
